• How To: a new feature on all things DIY

Posted on May 18, 2010 by in Eco-Sustainability, Food and Recipes

I’ve been on an elimination kick lately (think 100 Thing Challenge). I think it must be our impending lifestyle shift from 9-5′ers to wandering nomads. It might also be the fact that I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately about the nasty chemicals that have made our living environments toxic. Regardless, I’ve been rummaging through cubbards, gleefully donating clothes, and selling household items on Kijiji.

But beyond the clothes and excess shoes are the crazy things that I (and probably you too!) spend way too much money on to keep the house, and us clean — Dish soap. Laundry detergent. Shampoo. Toilet bowl cleaner. Stain remover. This stuff is expensive and is it really (gasp!) necessary?!?

Seriously, what did our grandmothers use before Walmart and Target were hell-bent to dominate the world?

    I’m determined to find out.

I’ll share what I learn here and hope that you too will come along for the adventure as we make the shift to a more holistic way of living.

  1. Very cool. When do you guys leave for India?

We leave in early November! I’m so excited. AND we’re going on one-way tickets, so there’s no telling how long we’ll be gone! How’s things with you?
